Dr. Ali Zakari

Dr Ali is a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow working on Climate and Health at the MRC Unit The Gambia at LSHTM. His research interests are in food systems sustainability in sub-Saharan Africa.

Dr Ali is a Registered Nutritionist with the Allied Health Professions Council of Ghana and a Registered Associate Nutritionist (ANutr.) with the Association for Nutrition, UK.  He completed his PhD at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) working on food systems resilience in low income settings.

Dr Ali was the local project lead on the Wellcome Trust funded project on food system adaptations to climate change – Africa (FACE-Africa) which sought to co-create food system solutions to climate change working with various stakeholders in food, agriculture, policymakers and local farmers. His recent works are on the Lancet Countdown where he is leading efforts to establish an African Regional Centre on Climate Change and Health.

In this talk, Dr Ali will present key findings from The Gambia and West Africa showing how food supply and diets relate to both health and environmental sustainability targets.
